Fall Harvest Experiences in Alberta

Fall Harvest Experiences in Alberta

The fall harvest season – late August through November – is the perfect time to discover Alberta’s bountiful agri-tourism, culinary and craft beverage offerings.

The Farming Life

Prairie Gardens: Located near Bon Accord, Prairie Gardens has attracted more than one million visitors to its 35 vibrant acres. The U-Pick produce options include various greens, potatoes, strawberries, tomatoes, squash and heirloom pumpkins. Prairie Gardens also offers garden tours and many more family friendly activities, including a petting farm, nature trails and labyrinthine corn mazes. In October, don’t miss the haunted house and pumpkin patch.

PaSu Farm: Just 45 minutes northwest of Calgary you’ll find this agricultural oasis – a unique combo of boutique shopping, authentic Alberta dining, and a working farm. PaSu – and acronym of Patrick and Susan, the farm’s founders – offers panoramic view of the Rockies and a wide array of woolen products made from the farm’s own flock, including quilts, rugs, hats and more.

The Cheesiry: Some of Alberta's finest raw milk and pasteurized sheep's milk cheeses come from the Cheesiry, located in Kitscoty. During a visit to this charming spot, you’ll see how cheesmaker Rhonda Zuk Headon crafts the farm’s famed pecorino – a talent she learned from masters in Tuscany, Italy. Finish off the experience with wine, cheese – and a sheep-milking demonstration!

Edgar Farms: Founded in the early 1900s, this family-owned farm in Red Deer County has deep roots in Alberta’s agricultural landscape. Edgar Farms is beloved for its asparagus, peas and beans – it might just be the sweetest, most tender, flavorful freshest produce you will ever taste. Take a tour out to the pea patch and sample peas right off the vine.

Culinary Experiences

Farm Dinners at RGE RD: Get a taste of Alberta’s untamed cuisine! Founded in 2013 out of a desire to connect further with the province’s unique culinary landscape, RGE RD is an urban gathering place where the farm dictates the menu. The organization works closely with local farmers to bring diners the very best, freshest ingredients the area has to offer, both at its own restaurant in Edmonton, and during special farm dinners at local farms.

Jacek Chocolates: “Chocolate Couture” is what Jacek Chocolate is all about – and you’ll understand why when you step into the their stylish shops in Edmonton or Sherwood Park. Founder Jacqueline Jacek is the world’s first Cocoanista; a fusion between a Fashionista & a Chocolatier, and she applies the principles of haute couture in the creation of artisan chocolates. Meet up with one of Jacek’s chocolate stylists and get a look at how they make their ethically sourced treats.
