We have good reason to celebrate in 2017. Alberta events that honour Canada’s sesquicentennial include:
  • Banff Bioblitz 150 taking place April 22, 2017. Nature lovers help conduct important research and amphibian surveys in the lower Bow Valley of Banff National Park.
  • The theme for this year’s Calgary Stampede Parade is Canada’s 150th. Marching bands, floats and entertainers wow crowds of approximately 250,000 (with thousands more watching on TV!).
  • Participants finish strong and free during the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon. The May 25 to 28, 2017 race weekend features patriotic fitness events such as a Cross Canada experiential race, plus Confederation 150 Ultra SOLO and Relay events.
  • Edmonton’s Canada 150 Art Project is set to bring lasting landmarks to the city. Alberta artists will create five original sculptural works of art that reflect Canadian landscapes, culture, history and/or values such as diversity, inclusion, reconciliation and inspiring youth.
  • Canada: Day 1 is a bilingual travelling exhibition produced by the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, and will be hosted at the Cultural and Science Centre in Lloydminster from December 17 - March 26, 2017.
  • Residents and tourists have every reason to explore the five National Parks situated in in Alberta. In 2017, Parks Canada is offering free entry into all National Parks and Historic Sites.
  • Experience art via sound with Landmarks 2017 launching June 10, 2017. This Canada 150 Signature Initiative showcases a Partners in Art project about listening to the land. Sculptures will be installed on a rock adjacent to Lake Minnewanka until Aug 31, 2017.
  • Celebrating Alberta and Canada's Royal heritage, Banff Commonwealth Walkway honours the 90th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Unveiled in September 2017 as part of events to mark Canada’s 150th birthday, the walkway will feature bilingual bronze plaques along its trail.
