Holidays on Horseback

When riding through the magnificent Canadian Rockies, it is easy for visitors to imagine they have travelled back in time to a place not yet intersected by roads and fences. From the top of the highest bluffs, the wilderness spreads out before a rider in a panoramic view that is both awe-inspiring and tranquil.

Wild Rides in Waterton
In the southwest corner of Alberta is a place where prairies collide with mountains – a dream environment for riders. Guided pack trips offered by Alpine Stables in Waterton Lakes National Park provide riders with a turn-of-the-century experience in mountain horsepacking. It’s an incredible ride and a true wilderness camping experience.

Backcountry Banff
The words backcountry and luxury are not often used in the same sentence – unless you are on a Holiday on Horseback Pack Trip. Riders who like a touch of luxury in the wilderness can corral their horses at Ten-Mile Cabin and bed down at either Sundance or Halfway Lodge. Meals are a highlight of the trip and onsite cooks make sure guests are well fuelled so they can comfortably spend their days exploring remote areas of Banff National Park.

Jasper Wilderness Adventure
Nestled deep in the heart of Jasper National Park is the Tonquin Amethyst Lake Lodge, some 23 km (14 mi) from the nearest road. Tonquin Valley Adventures specializes in pack trips to this remote destination where riders can enjoy home cooked meals, comfortable beds and the stunning scenery of the Rampart Mountains and the beautiful Amethyst Lakes.
