The Calgary Airport Authority is pleased by Air Canada's decision to invest in the Alberta market by significantly increasing seat capacity for summer 2014. Air Canada will up -gauge aircraft on both Calgary-London and Calgary-Frankfurt to a B-777-300 offering 349 seats daily.

“We welcome Air Canada’s investment in growing Alberta’s connections to Europe,” said Stephan Poirier, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer for The Calgary Airport Authority. “Air Canada's presence at YYC has grown significantly over the last two years providing Albertans with more opportunities to travel non-stop and more capacity. The addition of the 777s is great news on the cargo front as well providing shippers and forwarders an extra 60 to 70 tons of uplift daily to Europe consolidating YYC's position as Western Canada's cargo hub of choice."

The introduction of the Boeing 777-300 service to YYC, featuring a choice of Air Canada Executive First and Economy cabins, will enable Albertans to have more seats to more destinations than any other airport in the region. "This commitment by Air Canada increases our direct, non-stop service to Europe by 35 per cent and offers passengers looking for a non-stop service to London Heathrow and Frankfurt Airport, and beyond, another great option for travel," concluded Poirier.

"Travel Alberta's mandate is to promote Alberta tourism destinations and experiences to the world and tell our story,” said Bruce Okabe, CEO for Travel Alberta. “We are excited about the opportunity to welcome more visitors to our province."

Calgary has been the fastest growing Canadian airport in Canada over the last 12 months at 5% growth and continues to consolidate its position as Alberta’s leading gateway to the world.

YYC is also one of only three airports in Canada providing the population it serves with year round scheduled service to both Europe and Asia.
