Sydney, Australia — It’s not all cowboy hats and rodeos. The Calgary Stampede, taking place from 6 – 15 July 2012 inAlberta,Canada, is famous for its outrageous food offerings and, to celebrate its centennial event, this year’s show is set to serve up the craziest dishes yet.

Combining nostalgic childhood favourites with a carnival twist, 17 new drool-worthy creations, such as whiskey-infused fudge and cotton-candy cupcakes, are on the menu.

“The Calgary Stampede is a feast for the senses and we aim to keep your taste buds zinging,” says Lindsay Jardine, Tourism Sales Manager, Calgary Stampede. “We’re renowned for our innovative food and, to celebrate our Centenary, we’re offering a range of new delicious treats for every palette.”

Jardine is not kidding. For the sweet tooth there’s everything from Red Velvet Funnel Cake, deep fried Wagon Wheels and Loukoumathes (deep fried honey puffs), while those with a fetish for savoury can indulge in Naco Bits (deep fried butterchicken sausage), Taco Pizza and Beef Bacon Sandwiches.

“For those who want the best of both worlds, we’ve created menu items that combine both sweet and savoury, such as the mouth-watering Bacon Sundae Funnel Cake,” says Jardine.

The Calgary Stampede is the World’s richest rodeo, where hides are raw, hearts untamed and the world’s toughest stock walk on two legs.

Along with endless edible delights, visitors will experience the daily thrill of rodeos, the thundering power of the GMC Rangeland Derby, First Nations performances and the nightly spectacle of the one-of-a-kind TransAlta Grandstand Show.
