Tourism Jasper announces the TELUS World of Science – Edmonton (TWOSE) as the signature partner for the 4th annual Jasper Dark Sky Festival held in Jasper, Alberta, Oct. 17-26, 2014.
The annual event, celebrating Jasper National Park’s designation as the world’s second largest Dark Sky Preserve (DSP), features 10 days of astronomy and science-related events. “This year promises to be the best Jasper Dark Sky Festival to-date, as we host some of the greatest scientific minds in history,” said Tourism Jasper’s CEO, Mary Darling. “We couldn’t have grown this event without partnerships like the one we are so fortunate to have with TWOSE.”
As the signature partner, TWOSE will present a variety of science programming for the public such as rocket launches, a mobile planetarium, science demonstrations and telescopes for night sky observations.
“Having helped provide programing for the festival during its formative years, we felt the role of signature partner was a perfect match for our organization,” says Frank Florian, VP of Science at TWOSE. “For 30 years we have helped engage the community with science and astronomy, and helping celebrate one of the premier dark sky preserves is an important part of our identity.”
This year's festival highlight will be an evening of space and music with retired astronaut Chris Hadfield and Jay Ingram, former host of Daily Planet.
