Medicine Hat, AB – Back for another exciting year of culinary competitions, tastings and unique dining experiences, the 4th annual Sunshine Skillet Food Festival will be held on May 13 & 14, 2016.

Taking its fresh approach to the next level, the event will be held concurrently with the opening weekend of the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Farmer’s Market at the Cypress Centre “Fieldhouse”. Explore over 40 local vendors at the farmer’s market, and then take in the culinary excitement centre stage as professional and amateur chefs battle it out for Top Chef status. Surrounded by a bounty of fresh regional produce, baking, preserves and more, guests can anticipate seeing plenty of local ingredients being incorporated into this year’s exciting culinary creations!

The Sunshine Skillet cooking competition is open to competitors of all skill levels, and the all-round Top Chef winner will be extended the opportunity to advance to the Canadian Food Championships this summer. Each competitor will receive two pots, one burner and 30 minutes to create their best dish, using selected regional items from a mystery basket, a type of bacon, and pantry essentials. The pressure will be on as only a select few will advance to the final cook-off, with the winner taking home a $1,000.00 cash prize. Interested in participating? Register now! With only one day of competition this year, spots are limited.

After a day inspired by meeting regional producers and smelling mouthwatering competition creations, you won’t want to miss the coveted annual Sunset Dinner, where five seasoned Medicine Hat chefs will be collaborating to create a 5-course menu to remember. Authentically local, each will feature ingredients sourced from Southern Alberta, complemented by a perfect wine pairing. This year’s Dinner theme “Preservation” will be enhanced by the charming outdoor setting at the Pioneer Village, situated at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede. Sip, savour and be inspired!
