As part of a new experiential tourism plan for Maligne Lake, the Maligne Tours Spirit Island Boat Cruise roster now includes the Family of Explorers and Through the Lens tours, each of which offers customized versions of the traditional journey across spectacular Maligne Lake to captivating Spirit Island, one of the most photographed places in the world.
The Maligne Lake Family of Explorers Cruise features interactive story-telling and interpretation tailored to children and families, together with a controlled nature-based scavenger hunt at Spirit Island and on-board snacks.
The Through the Lens customized interpretation tours are led by Jasper-based professional photographers providing instruction for obtaining the best possible images of nature at its finest. Participants will also learn about famous Rockies photographers William Oliver, James Topley, Byron Harmon, Joe Weiss and Peter Gale and learn about Maligne’s influence on Canada’s world famous Group of Seven.“These new cruises are a small part of Maligne Tours’ development of a new experiential tourism plan for Maligne Lake,” according to 17-year veteran Spirit Island cruise director Michelle Booth. “The plan does not impact facilities or the environment at Maligne,” according to Booth. “The emphasis is on stories, learning, environmental education and revealing the true nature and heritage associated with the destination.
The plan is being developed in association with leading Canadian experiential tourism developers and is in follow up to Maligne Tours’ participation in the industry-leading Edge of the Wedge program at the Gros Morne Institute of Sustainable Tourism at Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland and Labrador.
