October 30, 2013
by Leighton Art Centre

The Leighton Art Centre's Christmas in the Country Art Sale signals the start to the holidays, especially for people who love art and fine Alberta crafts.  The annual sale takes place from 10:00 am to 4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday November 2-3 and Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, November 8-11, in the Leighton Heritage Home at the Centre. Admission is free for the sale and for all accompanying children's and family activities. And, there are no parking fees!

This year the Leighton is taking one of Alberta's oldest and biggest art sales to a whole new level:

100 Alberta artists each offer 15 unframed paintings in watercolour, acrylic, oil, mixed media... and photography - including 30 new artists who have never shown at the Leighton Art Centre.

50 Alberta artisans and sculptors showcasing crafts from ceramics, hand-blown glass and woodwork to jewelry, hand-made scarves and cards.

New This Year - for the more serious art collector. Below Zero is an exhibition and sale of framed paintings in many sizes themed around the beauty of our Alberta winter. Works by over 30 top artists including Bill Duma, Jerry Markham, Brent Laycock, Lissi Legge, Lois Bauman and Diane Howard Langlois.

This is a perfect opportunity to get original gifts for that hard to buy for someone in your life, or yourself!  The Gallery Shop features unique Alberta-made stocking stuffers, most under $30.00.

Make it a great day in the country for the whole family.

There is no better way to ease yourself into the holiday spirit than enjoying and afternoon in the Leighton Heritage Home decorated to celebrate the season or exploring the 80-acres of Foothills splendor. Join the kids in hands-on art and craft activities and sample the delicious festive treats and tasty Christmas cider donated by presenting partner Calgary Co-op.
The Christmas in the Country Art Sale offers an opportunity for visitors to purchase original works by recognized Alberta artists, and to discover the new talents of emerging artists. Funds raised from the event will be used to support the educational activities of the Leighton Art Centre and maintain heritage Home and natural environment.

The Leighton Art Centre is located just a short drive southwest of Calgary, off The Cowboy Trail. The Centre offers a magnificent 80-acre panoramic view of the Rocky Mountains. Two major land art installations are open to visitors. See our website for details.

The Leighton Art Centre was established by Barbara Leighton to support artists and promote art education.  Our programs celebrate the landscape by encouraging artists - from beginners to masters - to experience the landscape and follow in the painterly footsteps of A.C. Leighton. Approximately 8,000 school children visit the Leighton Art Centre every year and participate in our Art and Nature program.
