Grow it, Make it, Bake it

Once spring has sprung, producers across the Province take to the streets and stalls sharing their creations at the many farmers’ markets across the province. Here are some unique offerings:
  • Not many farmers' markets see luxury hotels setting up a booth, but at Banff Farmers' Market, you’ll find apprentice chefs from Fairmont Banff Springs selling homemade bread and other goodies.
  • The Makers and Growers Guild in Black Diamond is where you can snag handcrafted works of art and household items by artisans and hipster entrepreneurs.
  • An authentic country farmer’s market is held at the Millarville Race Track on the weekends from June to October with makers, growers and artisans selling their creations.
  • In addition to a wide range of produce, specialties such as pickled beets, perogies and green onion cakes are on offer at the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market in Edmonton.
  • A large indoor playground makes the Calgary Farmers’ Market a haven for families keen to snap up seasonal produce. Jelly Modern Doughnuts, Canada’s original gourmet donut bakery, a local cheesemonger and a specialty coffee roaster are but a few of the eclectic vendors.
