Fort McMurray - Denver Daily Nonstop Service Begins in June

by Fort McMurray Airport Authority

Denver, Colorado will be connected to Fort McMurray beginning June 7 with the launch of the first scheduled non-stop passenger service from the United States into the area. This new flight will also connect Fort McMurray to United’s global network.

This convenient flight will eliminate the extra time and cost associated with connecting through Edmonton or Calgary and provides travel connections to over 90 destinations in the US. The Denver Airport (DEN) is the eleventh busiest airport in the world and fifth in the United States, offering more than 1700 daily flights to 170 nonstop destinations with over 52 million annual passengers. DEN has nonstop service to 20 international destinations in six countries including Germany, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Costa Rica.

“The service is the culmination of 18 months of discussions with United to introduce this service to Fort McMurray. This flight places YMM on the world map making it easier for visitors to travel to the region while benefiting our local residents that are destined to the US and other international destinations,” stated Scott Clements, CEO & President of Fort McMurray Airport Authority.

SkyWest Airlines will operate the United Express scheduled service from YMM to DEN. Flights will leave YMM at 6:00 a.m. and arrive at DEN at 9:00 a.m. On the return flight, passengers leave DEN at 8:15 p.m. and arrive at YMM at 11:18 p.m. Service will be on a CRJ-700 aircraft with 66 seat capacity: six seats in United Business, 28 Economy Plus and 32 economy seat configuration.

“This is a milestone for YMM and represents a major building block in becoming a true ‘international’ airport” said Sheldon Schroeder, Chair of the Board for the Fort McMurray Airport Authority. This will be the first of several new flights expected over the next few years to meet the demands of Canada’s fastest growing passenger market.

“United is pleased to offer the first transborder service from YMM direct to the United States,” said Jim Ferea, United’s managing director of domestic planning. “These new flights will bring one-stop service to more than 50 cities that require two-stop service from YMM today.”

This is one more air service addition that the Fort McMurray Airport has seen in recent months. On December 19, 2012, we welcomed the inaugural Sunwing flight direct to Puerto Vallarta.
