Travel Alberta’s work with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and agency Eigen Fabrikaat on the 
‘Real Like’ social media campaign has been accepted to the 2013 Facebook Studio Awards.

Selected entries are posted in the Facebook Studio Gallery for the world to like, comment and share. This is the first step towards winning a Facebook Studio Award, and campaigns that attract a high number of likes are profiled in a special spotlight section of the gallery.

Winners of the 2012 awards included high profile brands Nike and American Express among others.

“It is an honor to be featured on this gallery amongst some of the world’s most creative and engaging Facebook campaigns” said Royce Chwin, Vice President of Global Marketing & Communications at Travel Alberta. “This is a great example of the power of partnerships and the innovative ways we work to keep the social conversation building about Alberta.”

The ‘Real Like’ project is part of a larger marketing campaign with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to generate awareness of Alberta and increase bookings from the Netherlands. An interactive contest on Facebook asked participants to place a digital ‘like’ on a map, placing it in the winter sports destinations of Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper.

At the end of the campaign, the ‘Real Likes’ were brought to Alberta in the form of mittens and distributed to locals. Images and video of the journey the mittens took was shared on Facebook and captivated thousands of Dutch Facebook fans for weeks.

Submissions are judged on how campaigns connect with people, share creative content and drive business growth. Eighteen jury members will present Blue, Gold, Silver and Bronze Facebook Studio Awards to the entries they deem as outstanding examples of marketing with Facebook.

Since becoming a Crown corporation on April 1, 2009, Travel Alberta has earned more than 20 awards related to excellence in tourism marketing, including marketing campaign of the year from the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC), a gold honour in Travel Weekly’s Magellan Awards, and the diamond award as best entry in the annual Golden City Gate Awards at the International Tourism Fair (ITB) in Berlin.
