Authentic Chinese lanterns will light up the zoo and set the stage for a unique experience like no other in Calgary. Coming fall 2015, The Calgary Zoo
presents ILLUMINASIA Lantern & Garden Festival
presented by Sinopec Canada. The extraordinary handmade festival lanterns will highlight some of the zoo's animals while showcasing culturally symbolic creatures such as the crane, mandarin ducks, and other iconic Chinese symbols like the phoenix.
The Calgary Zoo's Dorthy Harvie Gardens, celebrating a 30 year history this year, will provide the backdrop through lush mosiacs and vegetation tapestries. Visitors will also be
able to experience authentic Pan-Asian entertainment along with special programs the spotlight the arts, food or culture native to each region.
These amazing and intricate lanterns will be designed and prepared in China then assembled on site by a team of craftsmen directly from China with assistance from locally hired tradespeople. The Event will run from September 17th - November 1st, every Thursday through Sunday evening.
This new culturally-vibrant lantern and garden festival will be the only one of its kind in western Canada. ILLUMINASIA will be a great addition to the Calgary fall festival line-up, helping to pave the way for the arrival of the giant pandas at The Calgary Zoo in 2018.
