Communities across Canada have hosted the CN Canadian Women’s Open for the past seven years, and 2013 marks the return of this tournament to Edmonton, a major city on CN’s network.
International sporting events like the Canadian Women’s Open generate awareness of Alberta’s capital city and its offerings, and bring new spending into the regional economy. In addition, this event will raise funds for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, a beloved Edmonton organization.
Events like the Canadian Women’s Open complement Edmonton’s year-round event and festival calendar. In fact, the tournament coincides with North America’s largest and longest-running fringe festival.
Edmonton is highly regarded for its history of welcoming the world through international sporting and cultural events, which generate visibility, civic pride and economic impact as part of the city’s event attraction plan. Key upcoming examples include the 2013 Tour of Alberta (starts September 2), 2013 and 2014 Canadian Country Music Week and Awards, 2014 World Triathlon Grand Final, 2014 FIFA Women’s Under-20 World Cup and 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
