, Alberta Food Tours, Inc. (AFT) launched #EatAlberta150, a province-wide Instagram contest designed to increase awareness of Alberta as a food destination, to showcase our amazing partners and to engage Alberta food lovers in building our province’s bountiful food story as we celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.
Running June 1 – August 7, 2017, the contest is simple. Participants throughout the province – from big cities to farmers in their fields - are encouraged to share photos of their favourite Alberta foods on Instagram using the hashtag #EatAlberta150.
“Beef, bison, canola, honey, Red Fife wheat, root vegetables and Saskatoon berries were identified as signature Alberta foods in 2015 by our colleagues at the Alberta Culinary Tourism Alliance
. Now we want to continue the conversation and involve as many Albertans as possible to share the bounty we enjoy here,” states Alberta Food Tours president Karen Anderson.

Food tourism is the fastest growing segment of the tourism industry which provides an $8 billion economic impact to Alberta each year. Brad Smoliak, owner/chef of Edmonton’s Kitchen by Brad states, “I host long table dinners in Elk Island National Park as it provides a great stage to showcase our food. I hope to share Alberta's food with rest of the world so they can taste for themselves the difference that the purity of our land, air and water makes in the taste.”
