There may not be raptors in the kitchen or a T-rex roaming the city but the authentic dinosaur experience is alive in Alberta. The Guided Excavation Program
at Dinosaur Provincial Park
allows you to unearth valuable discoveries with real paleontologists - without the threat of a looming dinosaur attack. Alberta has one of the world’s richest dinosaur bone beds and you may find yourself literally tripping over the abundance of million-year old artifacts underfoot.
Available as a 1 day, 2 day, or 3 day package, May through October, participants will join a real excavation in this fully authentic dig. Set against the extraordinary Canadian Badlands
, this in-depth experience brings participants face-to-face with real dinosaur bones and prehistoric fossils. In small groups (capacity of 6 people per excursion), learn the techniques of prospecting and excavating fossils never before seen by human eyes while hiking the stunning backcountry of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Multi-day programs include accommodation and meals.
Work performed on this excavation will contribute to ongoing research at the world-class Royal Tyrrell Museum
. Making these valuable discoveries isn’t easy. This program is classified as difficult and participants will need to come prepared for sitting or kneeling on the ground, working with tools in the hot sun, and hiking in rough terrain or slippery conditions. Available to those 14 years and up.
This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity might be your chance at uncovering new secrets from the prehistoric world or discovering the next world-famous dinosaur. Unleash your inner-explorer in our dinosaur playground.
